Frequently asked questions

Which LoRaWAN activation modes and frequency plans does ChirpStack support?

ChirpStack supports both OTAA and ABP activation across all regional frequency plans, including EU868, US915, AU915, AS923, and others. You configure the frequency plan per gateway at setup time.

How many gateways and devices can each plan register?

Starter supports 100 devices and 5 gateways. Business scales to 1,000 devices and 25 gateways with REST and gRPC API access. Enterprise covers 10,000 devices and unlimited gateways on a dedicated server.

How does ChirpStack decode proprietary sensor payloads?

The codec framework lets you attach a JavaScript decode/encode function per device profile. On Business and Enterprise plans we help you write or import vendor-supplied codec scripts during onboarding.

Can you migrate an existing ChirpStack v3 deployment to your managed v4 environment?

Yes. We export your gateway registrations, device profiles, and application configurations from v3, then import them into the managed v4 stack. Contact us before sign-up to schedule the migration window.
